Start With the Use
Storage does not need the same envelope as an office, shop or occupied room. For a conditioned space, insulation, air sealing, vapor control, electrical work and HVAC belong together.
Kentucky Heat and Humidity
A closed steel container heats rapidly in direct sun, and the interior can stay damp when warm air meets cooler steel. Summer shade helps, but shade is not an insulation plan.
Rain and the Ground Connection
The four corner castings carry the concentrated load. Use firm, level bearing, grade water away from the corners and keep the underside accessible.
Roof First
A roof above the box can create shade, a drainage plane and room for insulation without losing as much interior height. The roof structure needs to meet the Kentucky code requirements that the local building official applies to the parcel.
When a Professional Design Is the Right Next Step
Louisville Metro's official shipping container guidance names foundations, openings, roofs, electrical, HVAC, insulation and utility connections as items that need analysis and documentation. Read it on the Louisville Metro shipping container page.
Delivery Access Still Controls the Schedule
Container One requires 110 feet of straight unobstructed space for a 20ft box, 130 feet for a 40ft box, at least 10 feet of width, 15 feet of height to drive and 22 feet of height along the unloading path. It publishes no fixed delivery window.
Sources and Scope
This guide is general information, not engineering advice. Confirm the local code path before modifying a container.
